Ravenclaw Sagittarians are the philosophers of the magical world. They love pure theory, pure mathematics, and anything that appeals to their yearning for far horizons, whether those horizons be physical (in which case they will do a lot of traveling) or mental. They excel at astrology and research, and have the rare gift of both being able to investigate a subject deeply and then being able to explain it to other people in plain language. This makes for excellent teaching potential. They are cheerful, athletic, brisk, and humourous, and also decidedly eccentric. Sometimes they get on people's nerves, because they don't have as many interpersonal skills as they seem to think they have, but it's hard to stay mad at a Ravenclaw Sagittarian for very long. FAMILIAR: Carrows Manor houses a collection of owls. Scanlon's favourite is a Fishing Owl he calls Beatrice.
APPEARANCE: 5’8”, with large blue eyes and brown hair glamour-charmed blonde. Scanlon is a bit broad-shouldered with manly hands, but he is slender and so can pull off wearing certain types of feminine things. He is very expressive; his face can speak volumes even when he isn’t actually saying anything, and he allows this to happen where others might try to cover up their emotions. He usually walks with a relaxed gait.

PERSONALITY: Scanlon is a real eccentric. Chief among his unique qualities is his penchant for feminine clothing and makeup, which he flaunts unabashedly. He’s also a fairly happy-go-lucky character for a purveyor or murder and mayhem, and tends to be rather polite with his victims before offing them. He sort of sees being a Death Eater as a lark, something to break up the monotony of being a wealthy scholar. He has a very flippant attitude and a razor-sharp wit. He is also very, very, very intelligent. Almost could be called a genius, but that's debatable.

HISTORY: Scanlon is the youngest of three children, and the only son, of a mostly-pure (mother is about a quarter Muggle) family in Ireland. The Carrowses are Old Money in Ireland and so Scanlon grew up rich, with the promise of never having to work a day in his life once he inherited the wealth. However, he could never be accounted lazy--he was always at his studies, and by the time he went to Hogwarts he knew (in theory, at least) about as much as the average third-year. So his Sorting into Ravenclaw came as no surprise to his family. There he joined one of his elder sisters--the other had gone into Slytherin. He flourished in Ravenclaw, and became especially proficient in Astronomy, Ancient Runes, and History. He was never particularly powerful magically, but he has wonderous aim and so his spells hit more often than not. He also flew rather well, but preferred it more as a recreation and so did not go for the Quidditch team.

The exact reason why Scanlon started getting interested in feminine things is difficult to pinpoint, but mostly it had to do with his adventurous curiosity, his closeness to his sister Serenity (who is very feminine), and a subconcious desire to stand out and get attention from others. It started around his 3rd Year with little experiments in makeup charms, and escalated from there. These days he wears nail polish and lipstick on a fairly regular basis, and any sort of fancy gathering will be sure to find him in a glamouruos frock--unless, of course, he isn't in the mood, which happens every now and again.

Scanlon had always had certain prejudices, by virtue of his parents’ own beliefs (his mother hated the fact that there was Muggle in her blood, and rarely spoke of it). As the one called Voldemort began to make His appearance, Scanlon found himself supporting the cause. He fraternized with and harboured those who were under Voldemort’s employ, but it was not until early 1981 that he finally made the decision to join them (his sister Selkie, the one who had gone to Slytherin, was already a member). Being a supporter was all well and good, but Scanlon was beginning to feel the need to do something with his life, and fighting for the only cause he believed in seemed the perfect idea. Besides, he felt his knowledge could be of some use to them.

By virtue of being a late addition to the Dark Lord’s ranks, Scanlon was all but passed over by the Ministry when they began rounding up Death Eaters for Azkaban--he was marked as a supporter, but the Ministry had bigger fish to fry, and so Scanlon was never fully implicated. To be cautious, however, he spent the next thirteen years lying relatively low with Selkie.

When Voldemort returned, Scanlon jumped back to His side with eagerness. He’d been starting to get bored waiting around for something to happen.

He spent the next couple of years picking up where he’d left off, in the lower ranks of the Death Eaters.
